MAJOR Drama Island
I don't like to use sportsball terminology, but this update is about a bit of a "hail mary" to me, in that it almost didn't happen.
If you tuned in last devlog, you were aprised of the fact that I was planning to do a major overhaul (hence the version numbering from 0.1.X to 0.2.X this time! Woohoo semantic versioning!!! I still consider this a beta, hence the 0), reverting the previously applied 10:1 scale (so you can take on a dustbunny scale perspective to wreak havoc in a human sized kitchen floating in outer space) to from a 10:1 to 1:1 scale in an engine physics based game.
So I did it! And then (I swear I'm not a sociopath but), I did not stop there. I got the scale conversion done, and in the process, did a little tweaking to the render pipeline assets... You know, like just trying a little post process. Setting tonemapping to ACES. Touch of bloom and vignette. You know.
If you're a dev, you DO likely know where this is going. For the uninitiated, that means I broke everything, including the previously complete and ready-to-ship scale conversion. This is why you use version control or do manual backups.
Then, even though I usually build and RUN before I update itch, I overwrote the itch.io version, with that broken version.
So yeah. That didn't go so well.
Fortunately, I knew the cause of my issues if not the solution. I first tried resetting the assets in the inspector, but that didn't work. Then I had a useful idea, which was to try unzipping my previous backup, and copying over just the render pipeline Settings folder, verbatim. I tried it, and that didn't fix the issue (which was that shadows were nauseatingly jittery during movement and maybe dangerous), BUT it tipped me off to what hadn't changed.
After much head-to-keyboard action, I discovered that -- unbeknownst to me -- we (either my sweetheart game dev partner Adjective Beaver or I) had previously set the max shadow distance 10x too far. And that was it. Fixing that, fixed my everything, and I owe the fact that you're getting an update at all to the fact that I DID indeed make a backup first. So kids, let this be a lesson to you.
Anyway, please enjoy this update. The shadows are a little harsher than before (but I think it serves a game mechanic purpose now!), I still haven't gotten bouncy (blue) bunnies working yet, and the game currently ends at level 7 without any indication that it's over, BUT/AND regular dust bunnies now react more predictably, AND THE SPRINT TOGGLE WORKS! It doesn't just roll over bunnies anymore!!! So WOOT!
